Hilarious Grindr Moment Made Eurovision Super Gay

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.

How gay is Eurovision? Super gay, of course, and not just because of Olly Alexander's hotly homoerotic "Dizzy." Hookup app Grindr made an unexpected appearance at last night's semifinals.

Host Petra Mede was mingling with the audience and promoting the Eurovision app when she borrowed a phone from an audience member in order to demonstrate the ease with which viewers and audience members could access "footage from our rehearsals, and also some backstage secret information."

But someone decided right then they wanted to access the man whose phone she had borrowed - and his Grindr app went nuts, pinging him repeatedly.

"As the audience members recognized the alert sound and erupted into laughter, the seasoned host addressed the hilarious mishap," UK newspaper the Sun detailed.

Well, sort of. Mede didn't seem to quite catch on at first.

"I don't know what that was," Mede said, still clutching the man's phone, "but anyway, download this Eurovision app."

It didn't take long for Mede to understand something funny was going on. Turning back to the audience member as his phone kept pinging with notifications, she said, "I'll just give you the phone back."

She then followed that dry laugh line with: "It seems like you're having a wonderful week here in Malmo."

The clip circulated on social media, with people offering their takes and commentary on the moment.

"Grindr with arguably the most efficient product placement in Eurovision there, I'm deceased 🤣😭#Eurovision2024" one person declared.

Some suggested that the moment was staged.

Others just went with it.

Product placement or not, Grindr was quick to get into the act.

What will tonight's second part of the semifinals hold in store? Tune in and find out!
