The Wait for a New 007 is Over: Aaron Taylor-Johnson Reportedly Wins the Coveted Role

The new James Bond has been announced, and it's not Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, or Luke Evans. "Nowhere Boy" actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been offered the role, and is expected to accept.

Taylor-Johnson, 33, was "formally offered the job," according to UK newspaper the Sun, and is expected to ink the deal this week. The English actor, who hails from High Wycombe, near London, has had some experience with marquee franchises, having been the first actor cast as Quicksilver in the MCU movies before Evan Peters took the role.

He's appeared in a slate of major movies, including 2010's "Kick Ass," the 2016 Tom Ford-directed "Nocturnal Animals," "Tenet" in 2020, and the comic actioner "Bullet Train" in 2022.

"Bond is Aaron's job, should he wish to accept it," the Sun cited an unnamed source as saying. "The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back."

"As far as Eon [Productions] is concerned," the source added, "Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement."

Also expected to commence preparation is the 26th James Bond movie, which the Sun noted is expected to start production later this year. Taylor-Johnson succeeds Daniel Craig, who held the fabled license to kill for 15 years, with a five-picture run that reinvented the role and reinvigorated the franchise.

"After playing Bond in the 2006 film 'Casino Royale,' he went on to star in 'Quantum of Solace,' 'Skyfall,' and 'Spectre,' before his final hurrah in 2021's 'No Time To Die,'" the New York Post wrote of Craig's reign.

"Taylor-Johnson, for his part, reportedly underwent a screen test for the Bond franchise in 2022."
