Don't Miss: Schuyler Bailar Discusses New Book, 'Obie is Man Enough'

Monday October 18, 2021

A leading voice for transgender inclusion, Schuyler Bailar was the first trans athlete to compete in any sport on an NCAA D1 men's team, and the only to have competed for all four years. In addition, he is an internationally celebrated inspirational speaker and advocate for inclusion, body positivity, and mental health awareness. And now, Bailar can add published author to his credentials.

Bailar's first book, "Obie is Man Enough" (Crown — Random House), is a coming-of-age novel about a middle school swimmer who also happens to be trans — another step in humanizing his experience and lifting up all people, but particularly trans people. Since being released this fall, the title has already become an Amazon Editors' Choice for children's books.

EDGE senior editor Matthew Wexler chats with Bailar about his college swimming career at Harvard, receiving the prestigious Harvard Directors Award, using social media as a powerful advocacy platform, and how he continues to mentor LGBTQ+ youth and provide a powerful voice for inclusion and representation.
