Actress Gabrielle Union and former basketball player Dwayne Wade could not be more proud of daughter Zaya after she bravely came out as transgender last year.

In an interview with People magazine, the celebrity couple said everything leading up to the moment and after was about learning to listen.

"We weren't coming into it like it's got to be our way," Union told People. "We're going to mess up. We're going to say the wrong thing. But we had to learn and be led."

As reported by People, Zaya was 3-years old when Wade and Union began discussing "possibilities" about her future. "We decided to approach it a different way," Wade told People. "I come from a locker room of a macho, male-dominant sport. But I started learning and I started to watch her. And from then on we started having more conversations."

Those conversations helped raise a girl who is comfortable in her skin. Zaya has since become a social media sensation and an LGBTQ fashion icon. During a recent zoom call with Michelle Obama, parents Union and Wade could not have been more proud of Zaya.

"We were all bawling!" Union said. "She was so amazing and dynamic, and to be able to hold your own with Michelle Obama, it was so impactful."

About Zaya's transformation, Union shared, "I didn't have many resources, so I just reached out to everyone I knew from social media. Everyone responded with love, resources and information."

Dwade adds, "When I look at Zaya, I get hope because I'm like, okay, we raised [our kids] to be authentic."

Bravo.
